The polarization properties of laser is the most stable transmission characteristics when the laser transmit in the atmosphere. Therefore, the modulation and demodulation techniques of the laser polarization parameters is great significance. In the study of the laser polarization characteristics of atmospheric laser communication system and in the process of information transfer.In the paper, the principle that is the phase delay characteristics of the liquid crystal light modulator and achievement of polarization modulation has been studied. The liquid crystal light modulator has the advantages, dynamic adjustable, adjustment range, easy to control, no mechanical adjustments and so on.Based on theory, we design a polarization modulator, light adaptive controller, adjustable splitter, research and verify its working principle, specific performance and methods of application though experimental. We analyse the principle on circular polarization technology based on the liquid crystal light modulator, design the structure of circular polarization modulation and demodulation system and apply this device in the research of polarization encoding and decoding of the atmosphere communication systems, achieve a simple transmission of information.
