Fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) technology is a veryvaluable technique, which plays an important role in sensing applications.Because of tunable optical properties and versatile surface modification, the FRET pair made of quantum dots and gold nanorods is of greatpractical significance. The optical property and the fluorescent sensingapplication of this system are researched through rational control of thesynthesis and surface modification of the two particles. The thesis isdivided into four chapters, as the following:The first chapter is the introduction, which firstly reviews the basicprinciple of FRET technique and the major type of probes. Secondly, ageneral introduction to the properties, major synthesized methods andapplications of quantum dots and gold nanorods is presented. Next, theapplications and challenges of (quantum dots-gold nanorods)fluorescence resonance energy transfer system are introduced. Finally, thework envisagements are proposed based on the previous work of our lab.The second chapter proposes a new strategy for determining bothenantiomeric composition and concentration of cysteine by usingnon-exclusive sensing systems. Based on the comprehensive analysis ofthe fluorescence responses in the two FRET systems, both concentrationand enantiomeric composition of the analyte can be well quantified. The third chapter describes a method for turn-on and near-infraredfluorescent sensing of TNT based on (quantum dots-gold nanorods)FRET system. The surface of the two particles are modified rationally tostudy the characteristic and regularity of the FRET pair. For the first time turn-on and near-Infrared fluorescent sensing for TNT is achieved. The fourth chapter summarizes the characteristic, innovation andprospective of this thesis. The previous work of (quantum dots-goldnanorods) FRET system is summarized and the outlook of further study isalso provided.
