With the development of Intelligent Transportation System, more and more attention is paid to wireless transmission technology. Because of the high speed movement of vehicles nodes in the area of urban environments, channel conditions are very unstable and the network topology structure changes quickly. Vehicle node is distributed unevenly, especially in the area of junctions. Due to the obstacles and traffic rules, the network is interrupted frequently, which makes it difficult to create the routing path from end to end. Even the vehicle density is high sometime, the link is always broken. So, designing an efficient routing protocol in order to ensure the information transmission timely and reliable has been always hot and difficult in the field of VANET research. This paper summarizes the exiting routing protocols of VANET network and proposes the GSFR protocol according to the problems of exiting protocols. GSFR protocol includes two mechanisms:(1) In exiting store-and-forward mechanism the second best neighbor is first to be used. Packets are sent to the second best neighbor node after being copied in certain conditions.(2) Based on store-and-forward mechanism we use the exiting fixed node mechanism in the area of junctions. Fixed nodes are preferred to be the next hop in order to increase the connectivity of the network and enhance the success of packet arrival rate. The paper uses simulation tool NS2to verify the correctness of the routing protocol theoretical analysis and makes performance evaluation of GSFR protocol from several aspects. The vehicle tool VanetMobiSim is used to generate the scene files of the vehicle trajectory.
