Passive sound positioning is combined with the acoustical, communication and signal processing. It is one of the important research branch. According to this theory, gunshot positioning has become one of the highlights of the present research.This paper based on the current research situation of the domestic and international in the passive sound positioning, it has discussed the single sound sensor passive acoustic positioning and three-element array passive acoustic positioning theory. Focuses on the five-element space array passive acoustic positioning, and analyses it’s error analysis, found five-element space array passive acoustic positioning have poor precision. According to this problem, from the increase the number of sound sensor, propose seven-element array passive acoustic positioning and error analysis of this algorithm. Compared with five-element array passive acoustic positioning performance, arrive at the conclusion that seven-element array passive acoustic positioning could improve the positioning performance. On the analysis of the five-element array passive acoustic positioning and seven-element array passive acoustic positioning show that the impact of the positioning performance another factor for time delay estimation algorithm’s accuracy. In this paper, after analysis of wavelet transformation theory foundation, using the discrete wavelet transform multiscale products in five-element array passive acoustic positioning, found that this algorithm has poor precision in the time delay estimation and also is more complicated. To these problems, based on discrete wavelet transform multiscale products time delay estimation, propose the lifting wavelet time delay estimation algorithm. Using these two time delay estimation algorithms in seven-element array passive acoustic positioning, this paper reach a conclusion that the lifting wavelet time delay estimation algorithm has high precision and high speed.
