Wireless networks are achieving a widespread market penetration thanks to a variety ofsolutions that are increasingly deployed in the field, e.g., cellular, ad hoc, wireless LAN andsensor networks. Cooperative communications will become an important enhancementtechnology in the next-generation wireless networks. It has the advantage of improving theconnection of system performance and energy efficiency, increasing the overall networkcoverage and network capacity and so on. Cooperative ARQ protocol which combined withcooperative communication and ARQ technology has the reliability of data transmission inlink layer. This paper mainly studies the queuing performance of cooperative ARQ under themodel of the single-source single-purpose networks.First of all, the systematic exposition of development of cooperative communication, andthe status of the cooperative ARQ protocols at home and abroad, as well as the latest researchprogress. On these basic, the fundamental of single-source single-relay cooperative ARQ andthe relay selection method are described. Then, the M/G/1queue model with vacations based on the idea of equivalent delay isestablished. On this basis, this paper analyzes the single-source single-relay cooperativeSR-ARQ system performance indicators from which the expressions of the system meandelay, saturation throughout and expected buffer occupancy at the source are obtained.Numerical analysis and simulation under the Rayleigh fading channel show that theperformance of cooperative SR-ARQ is better than non-cooperative SR-ARQ.Finally, the single-source double-relays system model in TDMA wireless networks basedon the optimal relay selection rule is established. On this basis, by analyzing the transmissionmechanism of single-source dual-relays GBN-ARQ protocol, the M/G/1queue model withvacation and mutually exclusive servers is built, and the analytic expressions of the systemdelay and throughout are obtained. Furthermore, the influences of PER between the source tothe destination node on system mean delay and throughout of three GBN-ARQ protocols(single-source double-relays cooperative GBN-ARQ、single-source single-relay cooperativeGBN-ARQ and non-cooperative GBN-ARQ) are comparative analyzed by numericalsimulation under conditions of the same system parameters. As a result of the work mentionedabove, single-source double-relays GBN-ARQ protocol will bring greater performance gainin TDMA wireless networks under the poor quality of the channel environment.
