With the rapid increment of mobile users and the huge requirement for multi-media mobile services, frequency resources are becoming rarer in mobile telecommunication system. In order to utilize frequency resources more efficiently, LTE system adopt hard handover other than soft handover which occupys much more frequency resources, at the same time it requires that hard handover can achieve a seamless and lossless handover just as soft handover. This paper will only focus on loassless handover implementation.First introduces the LTE system architecture and its main entities’ functions, introduces the protocol stacks and main protocol layer’s functions of eNodeB, especialy the PDCP functions related to lossless handover;Secondly analyze the handover procedures and analyze the requirements of implementing lossless handover. Thirdly propose the solutions of data forwarding and data buffering to avoid data loss and data disordering during handover.Finally provide the test methods and test result for the requirement of operator. Through the test in Integration test lab and the application in live network, fulfill the operator’s requirement for lossless handover.
