Contrary to Realistic Rendering which aims to create photorealistic3D graphics,NPR(Non-Photorealistic Rendering) do not simulate the physical processes from thespeed and accuracy, but access to both structured and abstracted information fromcognitive science in artistic or design fields. NPR aims to achieve the stylized rendering.The Computer Implementation of Ink Painting, which is one of Chinese traditional arttreasures, means much to the heritage and development of traditional arts in the new era.The thesis focus on studying how to real-time render ink-painting effect ofthree-dimensional model. Using multi-texture sampling technique, texture mappingtechnique and the feature line extraction technique based on image space, combinedwith advanced programmable graphic rendering pipeline technology andpost-processing technology to realize the ink-painting effect of3D model and real-timeinteractive display of results. Research interests of the thesis includes: theclassification of the art style of Chinese ink-painting and implementation in the hlsllanguage, and then encapsulate it to ’.compositor’ script which can be used by‘PluginCompositor’, the plug-in of Sim3D_Frame editor in which users are able tochange the ink-painting rendering style interactively. From the characteristics of linesand ink, summarizing, abstracting and dividing artistic features of ink-painting can getthe classification of art style. According to different features of programmable graphicspipeline, the art styles are sorted by the outline and internal regions. So vertex shadersand pixel shader can be used to render silhouettes and the internal region. Differentartistic styles rendering effect can be achieved by the two parameters. Therefore, how toextract feature line and realize internal shader are significant and difficult points of thethesis.Based on parallelism and high computation of programmable graphics hardwareand the vertices-unrelated rendering of image processing technology, image processingtechniques, post-processing technology, render to texture technology and texturemapping technology are adopted to improve the rendering quality. Using aprogrammable high-level language HLSL to write vertex shader and pixel shader, the related geometric computing and shading operations are implemented on the GPU,which improve rendering efficiency greatly.At the last, the design and implementation of PluginCompositor plug-in areintroduced and the ink-painting style rendering effect is achieved in ’Sim3D_Frame’editor.
