With increasing demand for video surveillance, embedded video monitoring systems have been applied widely. Nowadays, ARM and DSP are the two main kinds of embedded video collecting system. The new generation of ARM11processor S3C6410of SAMSUNG includes powerful hardware accelerators for tasks and an integrated Multi Format Code. It can take video signals to high-speed processing and compressing, support the Linux operating system. We can design high performance, low cost, small size and low power video capturing system. In video collecting fore-end, digitalizing analog video signals is needed, only by this, can ARM controller process video image deeply. So it is important that design a video converting device. This paper introduces a video collecting card considering present situation of video monitor fore-end.According to features of S3C6410, this paper designs a general scheme given the project demands, it chooses TVP as video decode chip. The system uses hot plugging to connect with S3C6410processor platform, transplants Linux2.6.28kenerl, constitute a video collecting system.For hardware part, this paper analyses feasibility of the video collecting card, designs the schematic, draw PCB board, finishes welding circuit board and debugging, implements seamless connection between collecting card and Camera interface of S3C6410. For software parts, it mainly analyses holistic architecture of Camera driver, uses platform driver architecture for designing according to programming driver norm in Linux kernel, it also analyses the models of video device driver and I2C bus source device driver. This paper designs and implements Camera source device driver and12C source device driver using TVP5151as core chip. On this basis, it also finishes exceptions detecting and alarming design, it will alarm by LED once there is anything abnormal in the system.To meet automatic test, this paper mainly describes software and hardware of TVP5151, it uses shell script language to finish tests on I2C bus, devices register and add, data collecting ports, LCD display and zoom, serial port and so on, programs corresponding test program and automatic test script program.In this paper, experimentations indicate that the designed video capture card is stable, of clear images and has strong practical application values.
