Video surveillance technology has been widely used in many areas, such as finance, public security or traffic control, etc. However, there are many problems existing in currently video surveillance projects. The spatial planning of the surveillance cameras is not intuitive. The engineers configure the devices by their experiences or estimation, owing to lack of effective layout methods for equipment resources. These will bring great difficulties for the construction, operation and maintenance of the video surveillance system, and also give rise to high costing. What’s more, the construction and optimization of the system will be influenced in further by these problems. In order to solve the status quo for blind distribution, this paper proposed an optimization scheme to lay out the cameras without status.In consideration of the specific needs of the actual surveillance project, this article builds a camera spatial layout evaluation system, which realizes space optimized configuration of cameras. It displays digital model in the monitoring system. And the progress of the layout has based on the platform of3D geographic information system.The main contents in this paper can be summarized as following:First, it describes the transformation between coordinate systems in the camera imaging process, and introduces the linear model and the nonlinear model of camera imaging model. Then based on the process of camera calibration, the calculation process of the projected area of cameras is summarized in the geographical space. That makes good theoretical basis for the later.Second, it introduces monitoring equipments and some attentions in the installation process, and analyzes the advantages of integrating geographic information system and digital video server in video surveillance application. Then it describes that the superiority of the space layout of the camera can be realized with the visual analysis of geographic information system in3D geographic information system.Third, it builds an evaluation system of the camera’s spatial layout. This is the core part of this paper. In this part it concludes the impact factors in monitoring points selecting. Combined the actual conditions with the implementation requirements, the basic principles can be proposed which should be followed in the selection Then it describes the progress of the construction of the space layout evaluation system.At last, the result shows the feasibility of the evaluation system, which proves the scientificalness, effectiveness and practicality of this method.
