With the progress of wireless communication network technology and the rise of multimediaservices, mobile communication has become one of the most active and most rapidlydevelopment technologies in the communication areas. And it also has a significant effect onhuman life and social development in the21st century. The traditional wireless network systemcan not meet the customers’ demand for “always online”.In a heterogeneous network, the mobile node with data interaction will handover to a newwireless network while spanning different wireless networks, and the original transmission willalso continue without interruption. This shuffling or changing from one network to another is thevertical handoff. In contrast to the horizontal handoff, the vertical handoff will across differentLayer1and Layer2protocol.In order to solve the above problems, this paper studies the advantages and the feasibleconformity of the3G/CDMA2000network and WLAN network respectively, and proposes ahybrid heterogeneous network architecture and handoff algorithm to meet a variety of wirelessnetwork technology which is gradually coming to the seamless integration of mobile Internetevolution. The main contents of this paper are as follows:(1) The interconnection relationship, target and implementation of the heterogeneousnetwork integration architecture are analyzed. Meanwhile it also studied problems that mayoccur in the vertical handoff.(2) An efficient RSS-based with the hysteresis vertical handoff algorithm which appendingthe mobile IPv6providing a more complete Layer1to Layer3handoff network mechanismis proposed and the adaptive cost-based competition online for available bandwidth isintroduced.(3) The message flow of handover sequences based on the Mobile IPv6protocol isproposed and formulated. Finally, we analyzed the factors resulting delay in details and calculated the general delay of vertical handoff and horizontal handoff.(4) Designed and realized the heterogeneous network switching system. Firstly, weanalyzed the hardware and software environment. Then, we described the systemarchitecture and program briefly, made a detailed exposition of the handoff system design ofthe theory and practice, and designed the MoIPv6_GATE for the data streaming conversion.Finally, the workflow system is demonstrated in details.Based on the above research, the simulation testing environment is established, and theresults of the performance analysis are compared. The main contributions of the thesis include:numerical results demonstrate that the proposed approach outperforms other approaches in thenumber of vertical handoffs, the service interruption during the mobile process and thetransmission packet loss, and connection dropping while maintaining competitive throughput.
