3GPP started Long Term Evolution of UMTS (LTE) in 2004. LTE improved and enhanced the radio access technology of 3G in order to increase data transmission rate and cell capacity, to reduce system delay, and to improve performance of users at the edge of cells. LTE adapts SC-FDMA (Single Carrier Frequency Division Multiplex Access) as its uplink multiple access technology. The target is to design and develop LTE uplink physical channels at the E-Node B on Intel GPP in this paper. In the first place, OFDM system is introduced to lead to SC-FDMA system, which is the LTE uplink multiple access technology. Then LTE uplink system architecture and physical channels in uplink, especially PUCCH and PRACH, are discussed. The development environment and tools as well as development platform are introduced in the following chapter. After receiver algorithms of PUCCH and PRACH are studied, simulations are performed for both channels to ensure that performance of these two channels will satisfy the requirements of protocols. According to combined consideration of the features of development environment, the different algorithms’complexity and the expected time-consuming of the programs to be and have been developed, the best or balanced algorithms are adapted enventually. Afterwards the designed architecture of two uplink channels and detailed implementation methods are set forth as well as optimization means and procedure. At the end of the paper, performance optimization schemes and methods are concluded. The design architecture, implementation and optimization were proved effective and efficient for LTE uplink receiver with lower latency and preferable performance.
