The contrast sensitivity function (CSF) is a measure of the vision ability to discern thedifferences of various frequency sinusoidal patterns. Generally, there are luminance andcolor contrast sensitivity functions. Based on the definition of contrast sensitivity, thispaper focuses on the chroma and hue contrast sensitivity of human vision, while thechroma and hue are defined in the CIE1976L*a*b*color space. Chroma contrast sensitivityfunction under 6 different hues are obtained to describe the chroma sensitivitycharacteristics of the human vision; and 12 different hue contrast sensitivity functions aregiven to describe the hue sensitivity characteristics of the human vision. These spatialcharacteristics are fundamental to build a spatial vision model, and can be of great usefulto color image compression, transformation, processing etc.
