Mine monitoring system is a typical application of wireless sensor networks. Underground wireless sensor networks require routing protocol can balance energy consumption of node and improve the reliability of network communication, adapt to changes in network structure and extend the network lifetime and so on. Reasonable and efficient routing protocol is the necessary condition to ensure that the wireless sensor network of mine environment is stability and reliable. Therefore, this paper carry out the research of underground wireless sensor network routing protocols for protecting the right and efficient operation of mine monitoring system.Firstly, analyse the design principles for wireless sensor network of mine environment, propose a mining wireless sensor network system design.Secondly, for underground wireless sensor network applications, this paper propose an based on energy-aware AODV routing protocol (Energy-aware-based AODV, EA-AODV). This protocol calculates the routing cost according to the energy of current node and quality of links for balancing power consumption of sensor nodes and improving the network delivery rate. A simulation platform is builded by OMNET++, the experiment of simulation results show that and, EA-AODV’s network delivery rate is increased 4.13% compare with AODV, while the network nodes with high energy consumption reduce about 6% consumption of energy. Finally, the EA-AODV protocol is programed into CC2430 which constitute the wireless sensor network, and make some experiments. The results of experiments show that the terminal nodes can join the network by routing node and select dynamically the route node to transmit data.
