This article has demonstrated the rationality of "LMD"("LMD" is short for "the Linguistics of Multimedia Design") from two dimensions, one is "the comparison of related research both at home and abroad",the other is "Linguistics".After reading amount of relevant references, the author of this article has demonstrated that there are astonishing similarity between "LMD",proposed by Zheqing You(CNN, a professor of Educational Technology) and "Multimedia Learning", proposed by Richard E. Mayer (USA, a professor of Psychology). Although they solve the problem of how to design multimedia from different aspects, they have almost the same opinion on how to design. By comparing with the theory of Multimedia Learning, we can easily know that the view of using LMD to help people how to design multimedia is not only feasible, but also reasonable.From the perspective of "Linguistics" and "Semiotics", LMD with three essential characteristics (symbolic, systematic and generated) regarded as a new type of information age language is reasonable. According to the view of American philosopher Morris who classified semiotics as three parts, which are syntactics, semantics and pragmatics. The perspective of LMD has three parts that are syntactic, semantic and pragmatic, proposed by Professor You is also well documented.The innovation of this paper is that finding some rational basis to support the views of professor You by studying the ways of solving the problems on how to design multimedia materials in abroad, as well as from linguistics. In addition, in the process of verifying the rationality of LMD, this paper also proposed some rational suggestions to perfect and develop the theory of LMD, such as defining motion picture as the division of "syntactic of LMD’and’pragmatics of LMD’; presenting the pragmatics of LMD also has "small environment" and "big environment" and so on.
