The magnetic levitation equilibrator is a complex integrated system including mechanism,electric and magnetic. The research on such system involves the knowledge of mechanics, controltheory, and Digital Signal Processing. This paper designs the hardware structure, the controllers andestablishes the whole control system based on describing the system composition, working principleand mathematical model in detail.First of all, the component and the basic principle of the magnetic levitation equilibrator isintroduced, then the hardware part of this system is designed, including the PID controller, drivecircuit, PWM generating circuit,power amplifier.The paper gives the schematic diagrams.The testresults indicate the performances of the circuit boards meet the requirements of the magneticlevitation equilibrator.In addition, the controller’s performance directly influences the whole system’s performance.The paper applies the sliding mode variable structure control to the magnetic levitation equilibrator,including the sliding mode controller based on back-stepping, the dynamical sliding mode controller,and the adaptive sliding mode controller based on integral switching function. The simulation resultsindicate the system can reach the stable suspension quickly and the position tracking signal trackingthe input signal well also meets the requirements of the system. The performances of the threecontrollers are more ideal.The research on the magnetic levitation equilibrator promotes wide applications of magneticlevitation, so it’s important to do research on the magnetic levitation equilibrator.
