This paper is focused on the research of Longmen Academy’ transformation for Longmen Normal school, and mainly explores the reasons, process and result of transformation. It is expect to probe the relationship of the academies’transformation and educational transformation in modern China. The paper is divided into three parts in additionto the introduction and conclusion.The first part emphasizes on analysis of background and reasons of the academies’transformation in the Late Qing Dynasty. Afterthe Second Opium War, China was urgent to need talent for protecting itself when it has been in a national crisis. But the traditional education has not trained the talent to fulfill the demand of society. After1894Sino-Japanese War, especially the talent was much urgent need in the New Deal period, so academies began to be transformed for modern schools. Because schools need more teachers, Longmen Academy had been transformed for Longmen Normal School.The second part is mainly to analyze the transforming process of Longmen Academy and the problems faced in the process. The establishment and progress of Longmen Academy was supported by the government officials of Shanghai Dao. And they also did much work for t academies’transformation with scholars of Longmen Academy. The objective of Longmen Academy’transformation is modern school in which the subjects were both Classic course and western science after transformingThe third part is mainly to analyze the situation and effect of Longmen Normal School.Since the Reform in the Late Qing, there were many primary schools founded in many places. Most of the Longmen Normal School graduates teached in Shanghai Dao and surrounding regions. They played an important role for many regions to alleviate the pressure over the lack of teachers and contribute a lot to promote the rise and development of modern schools.In short, Academies Transformation was the result of social reformation and being eager to establish modern schools in Late Qing. Although the process of transformation is hasty and lost some valuable spirit of the traditional academies, but it is the necessary choice and helpful way in the situation needed talent urgently. Academies’ transformationbasically fulfilled the original intention from the effect. In a sense, the rise and development of modern education inherited the spiritual tradition and also contributed the transformation of education in Modern China.
