This article presents a comparative research on the construction of ethnic identity andnational identity about the Uighur in the rural area of southern Xinjiang, With the fieldinvestigation at the bazaar village Zepu county in Kashi with the Uighur residents at bazaarvillage as the object of investigation, the situation of rural Uighur ethnic identity and nationalidentity, the way of construct and inheritance, and features of construction has beeninvestigated respectively by sociological field investigation methods like participantobservation, in-depth interviews and so on; on this basis construction mode has beencompared and the view of author is: in order to debug the differences of good ethnic identityand national identity, the construction of national identity should fit the ethnic "cultural logic".This article is further divided into five chapters:Introduction and the second chapter are the background. The purpose, background andsignificance area explained, the related concepts are defined and the statuses of this area arereviewed in the introducing of this paper. The target of this paper is indicated as an overviewin the chapterⅡ, and according to the field survey data, means of live of the village, livingconditions, religion, customs, and traditionally cultural change are introduced in more detail.Chapters III and IV are the analysis sections. They are based on the field data which wasreceived by interviews and observation. Construction of ethnic identity and national identityhas been analyzed, based on sociology of qualitative research methods, the ethnographicdescription and culture bearers-the villagers’ self-expression at the Uighur village. In chapterthree Uighur ethnic identity is investigated from four dimensions: Ethnic self-identification,belonging sense to ethnic, group positive or negative attitude, race involved, and theconstruction characteristics of ethnic identity are explored by the analysis of the ethnicidentity construction and the way of maintaining. The national identity of the Uighur villagersis investigated from these two dimensions: the internal and external national consciousness.Also the constructivist characteristics the national identity are analyzed at the Uighurvillagers.Chapters five and conclusion is a summary of the article and the discussion section.In the chapter V the rural Uighur ethnic identity and national identity construction modeis investigated and the possibility of the adaptation of ethnic identity and national identity is discussed. In the conclusion section the author believed that the National identity as a foreignideas and local social, cultural debugging. Other words, the construction of national identityshould try to meet the locals "cultural". Construction of national identity will be more pro-found and solid in this way.
