Hangzhou West Lake has been attracting the men of letters in ancient times with her longhistory and rich cultural atmosphere. The West Lake Bard Club was one of the numerous Ciclubs which had relatively fixed number literati in the end of Song Dynasty and the earlyyears of Yuan Dynasty. The members of the club recited poetries frequently around the WestLake which was the main site of activities. From one side, the word altar creation of the WestLake Bard Club reflected the development situation of Ci-poetry and the survival state ofadherents. In addition, the club activities had important contribution on the word altar creationfor future generations especially in Qing Dynasty. However, for a long time, academic circlesdon’t pay sufficient attention to the West Lake Bard Club.The research object of this paper is the West Lake Bard Club. Based on the literary works,related historical and theoretical materials, the paper demonstrates the West Lake Bard Club’sbackground, artistic features and far-reaching impact on the future generations. On this basisof study, the West Lake Bard Club played an important role in the history of South Dynastyword and Chinese word.The introduction comprehensively introduces the club’s research status and defines theclub’s nature and members. In recent years, the research on the west lake bard club hasobtained some achievement.However, some viewpoints appear one-sided. This paper tries todo some research on the west lake bard club as a whole.The first chapter mainly analyzes the cultural and literary background. The economicdevelopment and relaxed political policies provided substantial material foundation and agood cultural environment for the generation of Ci club in South Song. Besides, the naturalchange on the Ci-poetry has become the important factor for the generation of Ci club.Surrounded the elegant style, harmonious rhythm and metaphoric implications, thesecond chapter relates the club’s guiding ideology and the creation characteristic.The third chapter explores the influences on the Feelings on the old country, the elegantstyle and the metaphoric implications in the field of early Qing Dynasty Ci from the club’slater work which named Yue Fu Bu Ti.The last chapter studies the club’s status on the history of the South Song Ci. Ci club hasproduced important influence on the creation concept and aesthetic interest for the poets in theend of Song Dynasty. As a part of the poets in later Song, it made contributions to SongCi-poetry in South Song.
