1. PurposeBy observing the changes of the pain index and pain symptom score of primary trigeminal neuralgia patients before and after acupoint affixed therapy, we can objectively analyze and scientifically evaluate the efficacy of acupoint affixed therapy for primary trigeminal neuralgia. At the same time, we can observe the adverse events may occur in the treatment for the security assessment. We want to verify the efficacy of the treatment of primary trigeminal neuralgia, and explore its advantages of clinical application. We hope to provide an efficient, safe, then inexpensive and easy to promote Chinese characteristics therapy.2. MethodWe selected32primary trigeminal neuralgia patients in the Acupuncture clinic of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine Dongfang Hospital for prospective case series study. All were treated with acupoint therapy. According to the range of pain in patients, were selected ipsilateral acupoints Cuanzhu, Sizhukong, Yangbai, Touwei for the pain of the first branch of trigeminal nerve, Yingxiang, Sibai, Heliao, Jiaosun for the pain of the second branch of trigeminal nerve. Grinded the medicinal herbs into powder, took about3grams powder, and mixed it with vinegar into a thick paste when we used it. Affixed the drug to the ipsilateral acupoints selected for1~1.5hours every time. Repeated the treatment two times a day, and14days is a course of treatment. We recorded the changes of VAS pain scores and pain symptom scores before and after treatment and observed the incidence of adverse events during the treatment. We followed the condition changes of patients3months. Finally, Made the data for statistical analysis, and evaluate the efficacy and safety.3. ResultWe completed30cases after the study. The pain index and symptom scores before and after treatment showed a normal distribution. The data was statistically significant.Compared the pain index before and after treatment, we couldn’t see big difference after1week treatment(P>0.05), while we saw the significantly difference after2week treatment (P<0.05).And compared the pain symptom scores before and after treatment, we saw the significantly difference after1week treatment (P<0.05), and very significantly difference after2week treatment (P<0.01). It showed that this method could obviously alleviate the pain of trigeminal neuralgia patients.10percent of the patients have been fully recovered, and43.33percent of the patients have been obviously recovered.33.33percent of the patients have been eased their suffering from the disease, while13.33percent of the patients’treatment have made no big difference.4. ConclusionBy means of the analysis of the efficacy indexes before and after the treatment, we can see that acupoint affixed therapy is extremely useful to cure or relieve the pain of primary trigeminal neuralgia patients. There were no adverse events happened during the treatment, so it’s safe and reliable.
