This article studies Bupleurum and cinnamon decoction in Treatise on Cold Pathogenic Diseases, and it comprises three sections. The first part is literature review about the clinical applications and experimental studies in recent years, the second chapter is a study on medical theory of this classic recipe, and the last part is statistical analysis of the relevant medical cases.About the literature review, firstly collect the articles about bupleurum and cinnamon decoction turough literature databases, such as CNKI VIP and Wanfang Datat etc. By analyzing these materials can grasp an overall picture and research progress of this field, learn about the application range of this prescription, and sort out experimental research literatures in order to comprehend the current trends and it also could be a usful reference for clinical practice.About the theoretical studies, I discuss it mainly through four aspects. Firstly with the application of exegesis methods to study the original texts of bupleurum and cinnamon decoction in Treatise on Cold Pathogenic Diseases, Synopsis of Golden Chamber, Arcane Essentials from the Imperial Library, A Supplement to Recipes Worth A Thousand Gold and Prescriptions from the Heart of Doctor, ect. The purpose of this study is to explore the original intention of Zhongjing Zhang in expounding this classic recipe. Secondly, based on the fundamental theories of Traditional Chinese Medicine and ancient writtings of various past dynasties I discuss the theoretical features of this prescription through many sides, for instance the herbs, sick bits, symptoms, etiology and pathogenesis. Thirdly, in the light of the studies above I discuss the laws of how Zhongjing Zhan using this prescription. Lastly, by investigating the medical writings of successive dynasties to explore how ancient TCM scholars after Zhongjing Zhang take use of this prescription, and find out the historical evolution.About the modern medical case studies. I collect100related cases by ananlizing them to have a retrospective study about it and explore its adaptation syndromes. As the research indicated that the clinical application range of bupleurum and cinnamon decoction is extremely broad, covering almost every clinical department, but mainly suitable for the treatment of respiratory, digestive, and nervous system diseases. In addition, I also take a summary about the main and supporting indications of this classic recipe for its clinical use.In conclusion, through the study of literature, theoretical and clinical three aspects to explore this classic recipe profoundly, focus on restoring the original intention of Zhongjing Zhang, distinguishing misunderstandings of later various dynasties scolars, and take exploring the theoretical system of this recipe as the core with the assistant of dipicting the trajectory to the comprehensions and usage of ancient TCM experts. The paper aims to guid our clinical practice with the application of bupleurum and cinnamon decoction, and take a profoundly comprehension of classic prescriptions of Zhongjing Zhang.
