After baseline tests of Western Aphasia Battery(WAB) and Mini MentalStatus Examination(MMSE),all the patients with aphasia received speech trainingdaily for10consecutive days implemented by speech therapists and laypersonsrespectively.The naming ability was evaluated with75pictures before and aftertraining respectively in all the patients.Result:Except for the expand words in two groups of ST-WNNT and LT-WNNT, thenumbers of correct responses after training in other groups were significantly higher than that before training in the same group.The numbers of correct responses of thetrained words after training with WANT by ST and LT were significantly higher thanthat after training with WNNT by ST and LT, and the numbers of correct responses ofthe expand words after training in the group of LT-WANT were significantly higherthan that after training in the group of LT-WNNT.Conclusion:WANT implemented by speech therapists and laypersons may both effectivelyincrease the naming ability in patients with aphasia. LT is better than ST invocabulary development ability. It is suggested that WANT can be used for speechrehabilitation therapy in family and community. Objective:To contrast the effect of Word Association Navigation Training (WANT) andConventional Speech Training in speech rehabilitation.Method:Eighteen patients with aphasia were randomly divided into WANT group (n=9) andCST group (n=7). One hundred and twenty-two words chosen from Chinese wordassociation norms were used in WANT group by speech therapist. The presentationsequence of words was generated automatically with network analysis techniques.The select of training material and method were determined by speech therapist basedon the aphasia types and severe of the subjects in CST group. All the patients withaphasia received language training twice a day for ten consecutive days. The tests ofWAB and SLTA before and after training were evaluated in all patients.Results:Except for the spontaneous speech, there were no differences in other sub-items ofWAB between the two groups before or after training. All the sub-items and aphasiaquotient of WAB after training in WANT group were significantly higher than that before training. The repetitions of WAB after training in CST group weresignificantly higher than that before training. The differences of information contentand aphasia quotient after and before training were significantly higher in WANTgroup than in CST group. The listening comprehension, reading comprehension andcalculation of SLTA after training in WANT group were significantly higher than thatbefore training. The listening comprehension, reading comprehension and writing ofSLTA after training in CST group were significantly higher than that before training.The differences of naming and calculation of SLTA after and before training weresignificantly higher in WANT group than in CST group.Conclusion:Both WANT and CST implemented by speech therapist may effectively improvespeech function in patients with aphasia.
