Background:Panic disorder (PD)is a common acute anxiety disorder with recurring significant heart palpitations, sweating, tremor and other outonomic nervous symptoms and accompanied with a strong sense of impending doom and feeling out of control, afraiding of the unfortunatel consequences. With a high incidence, PD is usually coalesced with drug abuse, alcoholism and other problems, which seriously affect patients’physical and mental health, social function and quality of life. PD is easy to be misdiagnosed and this leads to repeated treatment and a waste of medical resources So correct early diagnosis and effective treatment for PD are especially important.Aims:Through a multi-center random sampling control study method, a prospective clinical observational study about the traditional chinese medicine treatment of soothing the nerves for PD was carried out in order to establish an objective evaluation for its clinical efficacy, and make clear its characteristics and advantages, finally, provide reliable evidence for the clinical application and promotion. Methods:The patients which were choosed based on a given standard were divided into the control group and experimental group though multi-center central random method.Patients in experimental group were given the traditional chinese medicine, while patiens in control group were treated by paroxetine hydrochloride tablets. The treatment cycle lasted28days.A dynamic observation based on Sheehan panic and anticipatory anxiety scale and anxiety self-rating scale scores changed before and after treatment was made in order to evaluate the clinical efficacy of Chinese and Western medicine treatment for PD.Results:(1) The top six symptoms were:Palpitations(98.2%), Short of breath(91.1%), Chest pain (83.9%), Afraid of death (83.9%), Sweating (78.6%), Dizziness (76.8%)(2) The result of PAAS:The number of people of PD onset and duration of worry time had no significant statistical difference (p>0.05) between two groups before treatment. Therefore, the two groups were comparable. But after7days’treatment, the scores between two groups were significantly different(p<0.05). We can draw a conclusion that the onset time of the experimental group was significantly better than the control group. After14days’ treatment, p>0.05. There is no significant differences between two groups.the group before and after the onset of PD number and duration of a statistically significant difference(p<0.05),indicating that the test and control groups can effectively control weight panic attacks and can shorten the time of anticipatory anxiety.(3) The score of SAS of both2groups:There was no significant statistical difference (p>0.05) between two groups before treatment. But after7days’treatment, the scores between two groups were significantly different(p<0.05). We can draw a conclusion that the experimental group were significantly better than the control group. Before treatment and28days after the treatment.significant statistics (p>0.05) indicating that the control group and experimental group treatment of panic disorder had effect; After treatment with the three months of follow-up,before and after the control group(P<0.05)were statistically significant, the experimental group had a more stable and lasting effect, while the control group were more likely to relapse. Conclusion:This clinical study proved that the traditional chinese medicine (method)of soothing the nerves and paroxetine hydrochloride in treating PD were satisfactorily effective. And the first group treatment for panic attack and duration of worry time control were earlier than the second. After a month of treatment had no obvious difference; The improvement of the situation of their own anxiety, the traditional chinese medicine of soothing the nerves treatment method for PD short-term and long-term efficacy was better than paroxetine hydrochloride treatment group.
