The Study On The Literary Theory Of The Summary Of Arts

Liu Xi zai’s The Summary of Arts in late Qing Dynasty was another famouswork of literary theory after Liu xie’s The Literary Mind and Carving of Dragons inthe Liang Dynasty. The book could be divided into six parts in addition to the preface,which were The Summary of Prose, The Summary of Fu, The Summary of Poem, TheSummary of Ci, The Summary of Calligraphy，The Summary of Jing Yi. The book waswritten by the writing methods from one point to another and with very fewsummarized a lot of,“illustrating what predecessors have been issued, extendingpredecessors previously unknown.” The stylistic theme of the General Theory of avariety of literary styles, Origin and Evaluation, writing skills and creativecharacteristics was discussed completely, which constituted a strict literary theory.The text intends to explore the literary theory of Liu Xi zai’s Yi Gai depending oninheriting the results of previous studies. The full text is divided into three parts: theintroduction, the body (six chapters) and the conclusion. The preamble describes theacademic status quo about Liu Xi zai’s The Summary of Arts and talks about thesignificance and research methods of this study and talks about his life and writings ofYi Gai, and then talks about the historical background and cultural background of hislife; the first chapter introduces the essence of the “heart” on the Liu Xi zai’s literarytheory; the second introduces the theory of poetry, Wen and Fu “complementary” style;the third chapter talks about the progress theory of literary history with time; thefourth introduces the styles theory about what style is man; the fifth chapterintroduces the theory of methods of understanding thoroughly; the sixth chapter talksabout the destination theory of Practical Statecraft; the conclusion emphases on thevalues and effect of Liu Xi zai’s Literary thought.
