ObjectivesTo assess the air quality in Jinchang City and to predict its variation tendency in the following6years, and then to provide some relevant strategies and approaches for the environmental air quality improvement in Jinchang on the basis of investigating the variation and the influencing factors of SO2, NO2, PM10, air pollution index, and the comprehensive air pollution index in the main urban area during2007to2012.MethodsStatistical analyses have been conducted based on the monitoring data of the air quality in the main urban area of Jinchang City during2007to2012, then air pollution index method and the comprehensive air pollution index method were used to assess the air quality and identify the main source of air pollutants; Finally, grey prediction model was applied to predict the variation tendency of air quality in the following6years.ResultsDuring2007to2012in the main urban area of Jinchang city, average concentration of SO2significantly decreased, while the concentration of NO? and PM10remained unchanged to some extent. The comprehensive air pollution index significantly decreased but the ratio of days with good air quality account for the whole year overall increased. The concentration of SO2and NO2was higher in spring and winter than that in summer and autumn while that of PM10was slightly lower in autumn than that in the other seasons. The differences of the annual average concentration of SO? among the three monitoring sites were insignificant, however, the annual mean concentration of NO2in Monitor spot1(Located in transport department) was lower than that of Monitor spot2(located in Jinchang Office of Science and Technology), that of PM10in Monitor spot3(Located in the2nd reception center) was significantly lower than that in the other two sits. The predictive results show that the comprehensive air pollution index and the concentrations of main pollutants will present a declining trend during these years.ConclusionsThe air quality of Jinchang City was improved year by year. Industrial waste gas was the main source of air pollution. Comprehensive measures of air pollution such as "projective emission reduction""structural emission reduction" and "administrative emission reduction" should be continued and combine with the targeted treatment of SO2to improve the air quality.
