| Objective:To compare the outcomes of volar locking plate fixationand manual reduction and splintlet fixation compoundingtraditional chinese drug in management of type C distal radialfractures. Methods:Analysis of the outcomes of the78senile patients withtype C distal radial fractures who were treated from September2009to March2013in our department.37cases were treated with manualreduction and splintlet fixation compounding traditional Chinesedrug, and41cases with volar locking plate internal fixation. Results:All the cases were followed-up,mean follow-up period was14.4months(11-16months).The X-RAY showed that all the fractureswere healing. According to Gartland and Werley wrist evaluationscore the excellent rate87.6%was for volar locking plate internalfixtaion and77.8%for manual reduction and and splintlet fixationcompounding traditional Chinese drug. The difference wasstatistically significant(P<0.05). But there weren′t significantdifferents in Patient-Rated Wrist Evaluation(PRWE)and thesatisfaction of the patients for the two groups (P>0.05). Conclusion: we can take individualized treatment for type Cfractures of the distal radius in Older Patients. The method of VolarLocking Plate Fixation can bring us satisfacted reduction andprognosis if the patients are well in general state of health andhave no surgical contraindication. It can be treated withnonoperative measures in the form of manual reduction and splintletfixation compounding traditional Chinese drug particularly inolder patients with limited functional demands and surgicalcontraindication. The treatment method of the aged distal radiusfractures should be objectively choosed respect the patientsexpectation and demands as far as possible. |
