Objectives:To study the effect of Qingguangan active ingredient on the expression of MMPs in filtering bleb scarring area after trabeculectomy in rabbit model. To explore the mechanism and effect of Qingguangan active ingredient against scarring forming after trabeculectomy.Methods:42NewZealand rabbits(weight1.8-2.2kg) were randomized into seven groups:the control group(group A),the model group(group B),the MMC group(group C),Qingguangan active ingredient1group(group D), Qingguangan active ingredient2group(group E),t Qingguangan active ingredient3group(group F), Qingguangan active ingredient4group(group G).Trabeculectomy was performed on both eyes in each group except the control group.MMC were combined with surgery in group3.The Qingguangan group were feed with Qingguangan. The control group and model group were feed with normal saline in the2nd day after surgery.IOP and regular examination were performed on each group before the surgery and in the2n day、1st、2nd and4th week after sugery. On postoperative28days the appearance of MMP-2and MMP-9on filtrating blebs were observed by immunohistochemistry. Results:The IOP declined rapidly to a nadir after trabeculectomy in the1st week, and growthed slowly to a stedy level in the4th week. The IOP of group C and group E had significant difference from other group(P>0.05). Statistical defferences were noted among groups on days14following surgery.Histology immunohistochemistry demonstrated that difference among each group’s expression of MMP-2and MMP-9were significant(p<0.05).Conclusions:Qingguangan can promote the expression of MMP-2and MMP-9.
