Study On The Status And Influencing Factors Of The Stethoscope’s Cleaning And Disinfection Of Medical Staff In A Tertiary Hospital

Objective:This study is to investigate the knowledge-attitude-practice level with the stethoscope’s cleaning and disinfection of medical staff in a tertiary hospital. In order to understand the obstacles that may be encountered in the implementation of stethoscope cleaning and disinfection process and to develop appropriate interventions by controlling the occurrence of nosocomial infection, influential factors and correlation about knowledge-attitude-practice with the stethoscope’s cleaning and disinfection were analyzed.Method:168medical staff in a tertiary hospital randomly selected and the questionnaire (study of medical staffs’knowledge-attitude-practice with the stethoscope’s cleaning and disinfection) was used to collect data. The questionnaire included general information of medical staff, knowledge-attitude-practice with the stethoscope’s cleaning and disinfection and the various factors that might affect the stethoscope’s cleaning and disinfection. Firstly, a pre-survey was carried out before the formal investigation. Secondly, the questionnaire was revised and improved according to the results of the pre-survey and experts’ evaluation. Thirdly, formal investigation was initiated. All data were analyzed with software SPSS version19.0. Statistical methods included descriptive statistical analysis, t-test, analysis of variance, regression analysis, etc. Results:1. The full score of knowledge with the stethoscope’s cleaning and disinfection of medical staffs is10, the average score was7.40±1.28. The full score of attitude is36, the average score was24.83±3.82. The full score of practice is36, the average score was20.42±3.07.2.23%of surveyed medical stuff haven’t received training on the stethoscope’s cleaning and disinfection,73.17%of them still use alcohol cotton wiping stethoscopes,83.54%of them use natural air dry method after cleaning or disinfection stethoscopes, only33.53%of them stored the stethoscope in clean bags or containers.3. There are a remarkable difference (p<0.05) in gender and occupation for having effect on the score of knowledge-attitude-practice with the stethoscope’s cleaning and disinfection. The time of work and the latest academic only effect on the score of knowledge and there exist a remarkable difference (p<0.05). However, the age, the title and the department etc have no effect on the score of knowledge-attitude-practice with the stethoscope’s cleaning and disinfection, and there is no significant difference (p>0.05)4. According to multiple linear stepwise regression analysis, tow factors (occupation and the latest academic) were the predict factors of knowledge-practice with the stethoscope’s cleaning and disinfection. Three factors (occupation, the latest academic and gender) were the predict factors of attitude with the stethoscope’s cleaning and disinfection.5. There is a certain degree of positive correlation between knowledge and attitudes, knowledge and behavior, attitudes and behavior by Pearson correlation analysis. The correlation modulus was0.484,0.386and0.397.6. The main self-reported factors that influenced on the performance of the cleaning and disinfection of the stethoscope were lack of the facility for stethoscope’s cleaning and disinfection, heavy workload, lack of enough importance, less efficient monitors, lack of the role models, and so on.Conclusion1. Through the survey, it should be worried regarding the current situation of medical stuff with the stethoscope’s cleaning and disinfection. The knowledge of medical stuff with the stethoscope’s cleaning and disinfection has not reached to a good level, and there are some misunderstandings. The compliance of attitudes and behaviors only reached to the general level. It is imperative to improve the situation of the stethoscope’s cleaning and disinfection. The relevant departments of hospitals should intensify propagandas to update the related knowledge with strong beliefs for the staff to achieve the purpose of compliance then improve their behaviors.2. The factors of knowledge-attitude-practice with the stethoscope’s cleaning and disinfection are occupation and the latest academic. Genders only have effect on the attitude with the stethoscope’s cleaning and disinfection.3. The medical staff with better command of the knowledge for the stethoscope’s cleaning and disinfection are more positive in attitudes and are more favorable to produce the compliance of behaviors.4. The compliance of medical stuff with the stethoscope’s cleaning and disinfection were influenced by many factors. It relied on comprehensive measures taken by hospitals, departments and medical staff themselves to improve the stethoscope’s cleaning and disinfection compliance. The hospital administration staff should increase the provision of cleaning and disinfecting products especially more portable spray quick-drying disinfectants and lighten the workload, carry out long-term effective monitoring, implement regular or irregular spot checks, set examples to create a good atmosphere for the stethoscope’s cleaning and disinfection. The compliance of medical staff with the stethoscope’s cleaning and disinfection should be improved by the comprehensive and these different measures taken.
