The plant Eupatorium lindleyanum DC which showed antihistamine andantibacterial activities, is indigenous to China. The whole plant called “Ye-Ma-Zhui” bylocal residents is used for the treatment of cough and tracheitis, and has bitter andacerbity tastes. In order to find active agents from it, the study on its chemicalconstituents was carried out.By means of silica gel column, ODS, Sephadex LH-20gel column, recrysta-llization, PHPLC and so on,30compounds were isolated from the80%ethanolextract of the whole plant of Eupatorium lindleyanum DC and their structureswere identified by their physico-chemicalcharacteristics and detailed spectroscopicanalysis. The30compounds were identified as eupalinolide F (1), eupalinolide G(2), eupalinolide H (3), eupalinolide I (4), eupalinolide J (5), eup-alinolide K (6),3-(hydroxymethyl)-1,14,15-trihydroxy-7,11,15-trimethyl-2,6,10-hexadecatrien-13-acetate (7),3-(hydroxymethyl)-1,13,15-trihydroxy-7,11,15-trimethyl-2,6,10-he-xadecatrien-14-acetate (8),3-(hydroxymethyl)-1,13,14,15-tetrahydroxy-7,11,15-trimethyl-2,6,10-hexadecatriene (9), vanillic acid (10), scopoletin (11),6,7-di-methylesculetin (12), nepetin (13), eupatrin (14), luteolin (15), isoquerecitrin (16),jaceosidin (17), quceritin (18), kaempferol (19), rutin (20), cirsiliol (21), taraxast-eryl acetate (22), pseudotaraxasteryl acetate (23), pseudotaraxasterol (24), butanoicacid (25), n-hexadecanoic acid (26), n-octacosanoic acid (27), β-sitosterol (28), d-aucosterol (29), linarin (30). In these compounds, compounds1-6were new sesq-uiterpenoids, compounds7-9were new diterpenoids and compounds10-16,23,25,27,30were isolated from Eupatorium lindleyanum for the first time. The investigation on the anti-tumor activity of the new compounds isolated fromEupatorium lindleyanum showed that the new sesquiterpenoids possess the much betteranti-tumor activity than the new diterpenoids. Meanwhile the investigation of theanticomplementary activities of some compounds isolated from Eupatorium lindleyanum indicated that the flavonoids in this plant showed the potentanticomplementary activities.
