Objective In order to explore the MDA-7/IL-24clinical significance in the patients withPLC, we investigate the expression level of MDA-7/IL-24gene in the tissues of PLC andanalyze the relationship between the MDA-7/IL-24expression level and anyclinicopathological parameters. Methods The specimens were obtained from64cases of PLC. The expression ofMDA-7/IL-24mRNA and protein in64specimens and adjacent non-cancerous tissues weresynchronous detected by real-time PCR and immunohistochemistry respectively. Therelationship between the MDA-7/IL-24expression level and clinicopathological parameterswas comprehensive analyzed by usingχ2test, t test and wilcoxon signed-rand test. Results Of the64cases,51specimens’(79.69%) MDA-7/IL-24mRNA expression levelwere significantly lower than adjacent non-cancerous tissues, P<0.05.The expressions ofMDA-7/IL-24mRNA were closely associated with tumor size, Serum AFP status andPathology classification, P<0.05; while no correlation was found between MDA-7/IL-24expression level and other clinicopathological parameters such as age, gender, HBsAgstatus, thrombosis status, vascular invasion and lymph node metastasis, P>0.05. Positivestaining was observed in the cytoplasm of tumor cells by immunohistochemical method.Expression of MDA-7/IL-24was high in28patients (43.75%)and low in the other36patients. There was no significant correlation between MDA-7/IL-24expression status andany clinicopathological parameters, P>0.05.Conclusion MDA-7/IL-24expression level was significantly lower than adjacentnon-cancerous tissues, and has an obvious negative correlation with tumor size, serum AFPstatus and Pathology classification. This study showed MDA-7/IL-24may be an importanttumor-suppressor gene of PLC. The expression of MDA-7/IL-24was decreased in PLCtissue, which leads to losing the suppressive effect of PLC.
