Analysis On The Ethical Issues In The Treatment Of Extremely Low Birth Weight Preterm Infants

United Nations Children’s Fund takes neonatal mortality as an important standard to measure a country’s health care level. The domestic and international newborn departments of pediatrics take the lifesaving rate of extremely low birth weight preterm infants as a symbol of medical technology. Therefore,the newborn departments of pediatrics medical care personnel spare no effort to rescue these newborns. For the past several years, the lifesaving rate of extremely low birth weight preterm infants unceasingly climbs in our country, newborn’s lowest survival weight and gestational age being constantly refreshed, thus the extremely low birth weight preterm infant number rise steeply. However the dual function of extremely low birth weight and preterm delivers makes the extremely low birth weight preterm infants survival with a poor health quality. Survival itself is not the ultimate goal of modern medicine, therefore it’s actually essential to this technology’s ethics analysis. By infiltration of ethics theory, we can grasp the development trend of medical scientifically, return medicine human nature value, protect the health of newborns, realizes the true medicine purpose. This article is divided into three parts, main content as followed:The opening chapter gives a general overview of the extremely low birth weight preterm infants. First has combed the extremely low birth weight preterm infant concept, analyzed the influence of extremely low birth weight and prematurely deliver to the newborn’s health. Then elaborated on later health conditions of extremely low birth weight preterm infants. After then analyzed the level of development and the present situation of medical treatment to extremely low birth weight preterm infant. Finally analyzed the reason of elevated rates of the extremely low birth weight preterm infant treatment. The later health conditions of extremely low birth weight preterm infant prompt us to reflect on the positive treatment medical behavior.The second part analyzed the ethical challenges that exist in the treatment of the extremely low birth weight preterm infant. Beneath the successful treatment surface there are many ethical problems:active treatment whether to conform with ethics; should we formulate the treatment standard; the best interests of baby and it’s embodiment; the performance and causation of the alienation of medical technology that exist in treatment; the medical decision-making subject and so on which exist in treatment are all need we to analysis and resolve.The third part put forward the treatment principle of extremely low birth weight preterm infant and corresponding policy recommendations. First outlines the ethical principles that should be followed in the extremely low birth weight preterm infant treatment:informed consent principle, the principle of the child’s best interests and people-oriented principle. And then propose the corresponding policy suggestions, namely before the birth strengthen the perinatal health care to reduce or avoid the extremely low birth weight preterm infant’s birth; when the born is inevitable we should strengthen the early intervention treatment to improve the quality of life, improve the newborn medical security system to lighten the burden on parents, build the Ethics Committee to protect children’s rights, establish the long-term follow-up mechanism, grasp the development of long-term prognosis to provide guidance for the clinical decision-making.
