| Objective: To evaluate the value of modified physiological and operative severityscore for the enumeration of mortality and morbidity(POSSUM) scoring system inpredicting morbidity for the thoracolumbar spine fracture patients. Methods: Aretrospective study was conducted over a period of nearly2years from January2007toDecember2010. Complete data from100patients were analyzed to compare themorbidity predicted by the POSSUM score. POSSUM risk was calculated using theoriginal POSSUM equation. Results: The estimated incidence of postoperativecomplications was39, which has no statistical significance with the observed morbidity35(2ï¼0.75, Pï¼0.388). And a total of35cases of patients with postoperativecomplications, operative severity score significantly higher than those withoutcomplications (P<0.05). Conclusions: POSSUM score can better predict postoperativecomplications in patients with thoracolumbar spine fracture, the physiological score canbe used to evaluate the physiological conditions preoperative. |
