Objectives:To observe the clinical therapeutic effect and the change of scale integrals of acupuncture by differentiation of symptoms and signs on Functional Dyspepsia (FD).To evaluate the clinical therapeutic effect of acupuncture by differentiation of symptoms and signs on FD by comparing with medication, to explore its possible mechanism, so as to provide a scientific basis for clinical treatment.Methods:72FD patients were randomly divided into2groups.36patients were in the treatment group with acupuncture by differentiation of symptoms and signs.36patients were in the control group with medication. The treatment group were treated with acupuncture of ST36(Zusanli), PC6(Neiguan), ST25(Tianshu), CV12(Zhongwan) and other acupoints by differentiation of symptoms and signs for30min once daily,6times as a course,2courses all together. The control group were treated with itopride tablet50mg/time,t. i.d,12days.After treatment, there was a follow-up2months later. Symptom curative effect index, Nepean Dyspepsia Index (NDI), the MOS36-Item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36) were recorded at baseline, beginning and end of the treatment and2months followed-up the accomplishment.Blood samples were also taken to measure the levels of serum gastrin(GAS) in the beginning and end of the treatment.Results:1. Comparison of comprehensive therapeutic effect:The cl inical therapeutic effects of the treatment group were obviously higher than that of the control group. There were significant differences between the treatment group and the control group in clinical therapeutic effects (P<0.05).2.Comparison of symptom curative effect index:There was no significant difference between the two groups on symptom total scores before treatment (P>0.05). When accomplished and2months followed-up the accomplishment there were significant differences between the two groups (P<0.01), and the effect of the treatment group is superior to that of the control group.3.Comparison of NDI:There was no significant difference between the two groups on NDI before treatment (P>0.05). When accomplished there were significant differences in the before-after study not only of the treatment group in NDI(P<0.01), but also of the control group (P<0.01). There were significant differences between the two groups (P<0.01), and the effect of the treatment group is superior to that of the control group.4.Comparison of SF-36:There was no significant difference between the two groups on SF-36before treatment (P>0.05). When accomplished there were significant differences in the before-after study not only of the treatment group in NDI(P<0.01), but also of the control group (P<0.01). There were significant differences between the two groups (P<0.01), and the effect of the treatment group is superior to that of the control group.5. Compari son of the level of serum GAS:There was no significant difference between the two groups on the level of serum GAS before treatment (P>0.05). When accomplished there were significant differences in the before-after study not only of the treatment group in the level of serum GAS (P<0.01), but also of the control group(P<0.01). There were significant differences between the two groups(P<0.01),and the effect of the treatment group is superior to that of the control group.6. Evaluation on safety index:There was no obvious adverse reaction in the two groups of patients. Patients were able to tolerate. No case discontinue the treatment because of serious adverse reactions.Conclusions:1. Acupuncture by differentiation of symptoms and signs on FD has a remarkable therapeutic effect. This method could be used as a optimal scheme on FD in clinical treatment, which not only could obviously improve the function of stomach and duodenum, enhance the quality of patients’lives, but also has a good long-term effect and no side effect.2. The level of serum GAS was decreased after the treatment of acupuncture by differentiation of symptoms and signs compared with that of before the treatment. This indicates that acupuncture regulates the level of serum GAS may be one of the mechanisms of acupuncture by differentiation of symptoms and signs on FD. Along with the change of the illness, the level of GAS changes accordingly. This indicates that the measurement of GAS would be as a reference index in the judgment of clinical therapeutic effect.
