Objective Especially in older people, both mental and physical function decreasedue to multiple age related changes, which in turn may affect quality of life. The mostobvious decrease in mental function is cognitive decline, which is a common aspect ofaging. However, in some cases decline is more serious than expected for a certain age.Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) is considered to be a potential transitional stagebetween normal cognitive function and Alzheimer’s disease。With the aging of manycountries’ populations and subsequent expansion of MCI prevalence and incidence, finding treatments that improve MCI symptoms and delay the possible progression ofMCI to dementia is essential. This is a further treatment research in elderly patients withmild cognitive impairment. To assess the efficacy of high does folic acid andatorvastatin in treating mild cognitive impairment, actively looking for a effectiveprevention and treatment measures pair of elderly patients with mild cognitiveimpairment. Methods The prospective study methods. Collection outpatient and inpatient patients, give them placebo for two weeks, get the fasting blood in the morning, to measure thehomocysteine, blood lipid and hepatic and renal functions. Then using the mini-mentalstate examination, to divide the research objects into the normal control A group andMCI group. And then MCI patients randomly divided into the untreated group (B group)and the treatment group (C group) depend on whether to treated with folic acidcombined with atorvastatin. Treated them with folic acid combined with atorvastatin for half year, to measure plasma homocysteine, blood lipid, hepatic and renal function, through the mini-mental state examination to contrast them between the treatment groupand untreatment group.Using the mini-mental state examination, to explore theimprovement of MCI patients who treated with folic acid combined with atorvastatin. Results After treatment there was no significant difference of Hcy, TC and MMSEscores in group A(P>0.05).In B group MMSE scores is lower than before aftertreatment.(P<0.05)Hcy and TC level were higher than before after treatment, but therewas no significant different(P>0.05).In C group MMSE scores is lower than before, butthere was no significant difference(P>0.05).Hcy and TC level were significant lowerthan before(P<0.05).Conclusion The plasma homocysteine and lipid levels of MCI patients had certainmetabolic disorders compared with normal control group. Patients diagnosed with mildcognitive impairment (B group) evaluation was made using MMSE scales were rapidthan control group. Folic acid and atorvastatin has a special advantage in improvingcognitive function in patients with mild cognitive impairment. It is an effective treatmentmethod.
