The semi-mangrove Heritiera littoralis Dryand (Sterculiaceae) is widely distributed in the coast of Oceania, Africa and Asia. In China, it’s mainly found in Guangxi, Guangdong, Hainan, and Taiwan Province. It has been used as folk medicine to cure hematuria and diarrhea for a long time in China. As the pharmacology study shows, it has bioactivities of fish poison, anti-inflammation, anti-tumor and anti-microbial. Compared to other mangrove, Heritiera littoralis was less studied about its chemical constituents. In this paper, regarded Heritiera littoralis leaves from Beilun Estuary of Guangxi as object of study, more chemical constituents were studied based on previous research so as that we can make better use of Heritiera littoralis. The leaves of Heritiera littoralis were extracted by alcohol, then water layer were obtained by water precipitation.8compounds were separated by various column chromatography and recrystallization, including D101macroporous absorption resin, silica gel, Sephadex LH-20and pre-HPLC. According to physico-chemical properties of the compounds, spectroscopic analysis and comparison with literatures, the structure of8compounds were elucidated as follow, protocatechuic acid(1),3,5,7-trihydroxychromone-3-O-a-L -rhamnopyranoside(2), epicatechin(3), kaempferol-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside(4), quercetin-3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranoside(5),(2R,3R)-dihydroquercetin-3-O-α-L-rh-amnopyranoside(6), kaempferol-3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranoside(7), kaempferol-3-O-(6"-O-E-p-coumaroyl)-β-D-glucopyranoside(8). The compound2,5,6and7were reported from this plant for the first time.
