Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between obesity[measured by body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), waist-to-hip ratio(WHR), waist-to-height ratio(WHtR)] and high-density lipoprotein level among theKorean-nationality and Han-nationality in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Methods:With simple random sampling and the cluster sampling, a total of14618subjects aged35and over years old (including4767of Uygur nationality,5757of Han nationality, and4094of Kazak nationality were selected form6loeality (Urumqi, Kelamayi, Fukang, theTurfanBasinloeality, Hetian loeality, Yili Kazakll autonomous Prefeeture) in Xinjiangduring October2007to March2010, and their height, weight, waist circumference, hipcircumference and high-density lipoprotein level were measured. Then BMI, WC, WHRand WHtR were calculated. Data analyses were performed using the SPSS statisticspackage16.0. All the data were analyzed with linear correlation analysis, and logisticregression method to explore the relationship between obese indexes and high-densitylipoprotein level. Results: We noticed that a showed the existence of negative correlationsbetween BMI (r=-0.037, P<0.001)and HDL-C, WC (r=-0.042, P<0.001)and HDL-C,WHR(r=-0.026, P<0.001), WHtR(r=-0.039, P<0.001)and HDL-C. The HDL-CClevels increased with age,BMI,WHR,WC,WHtR,SUA and fasting glucose (all P<0.001) inall participants. The logistic regression analysis showed that the prevalence of lowHDL-CC levels was positively associated with overweight diagnosed by BMI (OR=1.19,95%CI:1.079-1.313), obesity diagnosed by BMI(OR=1.142,95%CI:1.016-1.284)andcentral obesity diagnosed by WHR (OR=1.104,95%CI:1.002-1.218)in all participants. Conclusion: We noticed that a showed the existence of negative correlations betweenandHDL-C and obesity related measurement indexes in xinjiang area. The prevalence of lowHDL-C was positively associated with overweight, obesity diagnosed by BMI and obesity diagnosed by WHR, the value of OR (95%CI) was (OR=1.19,95%CI:1.079-1.313),(OR=1.142,95%CI:1.016-1.284)and (OR=1.104,95%CI:1.002-1.218) respectively.
