Objective: To summarize the clinical experience of laparoscopic surgery in thetreatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD).Methods: The clinical data from33patients undergoing laparoscopic repair procedure of esophageal hiatal hernia andlaparoscopic fundoplication from January2008to December2011were reviewed. Theoperations performed were: fundoplication only5cases(Toupt); laparoscopic hiatalherniorraphy in combination,25cases(Nissen3,Toupt22), laparoscopic repair procedureof esophageal hiatal hernia only3cases.Results: The operation was performedsuccessfully in all cases. The operation time was range from90to185minutes and themean postoperative hospital stay was6days. No postoperative complications wereobserved. There was no conversion to open surgery and no death occurred. The patientswere followed up for3~24months,During the follow up, a questionnaire regarding to thefrequency and gravity of symptoms were conducted in the33patients,a symptoms scorewas then made refer to the criteria for Reflux Diagnostic Questionnaire (RDQ) Score. Thescore showed that the symptoms including acid reflux, heartburn, chest pain, AbdominalPain,abdominal distension,nausea,vomiting and vomiting are improved significantly (P<0.05).Conclusion: laparoscopic repair procedure of esophageal hiatal hernia andlaparoscopic fundoplication is a minimally-invasive, safe and effective procedure in thetreatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease.
