ObjectiveTo summarize the clinical experience of opening reduction and internal fixation with bone graft and using Traditional Chinese Medicine therapy for treating calcaneal intra-articular fractures, this paper discusses the advantages of using traditional Chinese medicine, these will improve the clinical curative effect of calcaneal fractures.MethodsAll42calcaneal fractures of39patients were selected from Jan.2010to Mar.2011in Wuhan Puai Hospital, with34males (37feet) and5females (5feet). The average age was36.93years (range from21to56years). They were randomly divided into two groups, the bone graft group and the combined TCM group. Each group had different treatment. About22cases (23feet) of them were treated combined operative fixation and traditional chinese medicine therapy, and the curative effect was evaluated.ResultsThe patients were followed up for13.6months average (6-24months). They were compared, including related complications after the operation, measurement of Gissane angle and Bohler’s angle, and the foot AOFAS scores, using the SPSS17.0statistical analysis software.1. The analysis of the related complications The comparison of result:P>0.05,there is no statistically significance;2. The measurement of Gissane angle and Bohler’s angle The comparison of preoperative and postoperative Bohler’s Angle and Gissane Angle between the two groups, P>0.05; The comparison of the postoperative Bohler’s Angle after six months between the combined TCM group and the bone graft group, P>0.05; but the Gissane Angle after six months between the combined TCM group and the bone graft group, P<0.05;3. The AOFAS score results and analysis The combined TCM group were compared with the bone graft group, P <0.05;4. The comparison of the postoperative Bohler’s Angle and Gissane Angle loss of reduction after six months Bohler’s Angle:the combined TCM group were compared with the bone graft group, P<0.05; Gissane Angle:the combined TCM group were compared with the bone graft group, P<0.05;ConclusionThere is a better clinical curative effect of Opening reduction and internal fixation with bone graft and using Traditional Chinese Medicine therapy for calcaneal fractures, compare with the only bone graft gourp, it can decrease the postoperative Bohler’s Angle and the Gissane Angle loss of reduction after six months in the surgery; Bone graft for calcaneal fractures and using traditional chinese medicine can improve the clinical curative effect of calcaneal fractures; Bone graft and using TCM treatment for calcaneal fractures have some clinical effects in easing pain and promoting functional recovery and decreasing the postoperative Bohler’s Angle and the Gissane Angle loss of reduction after six months in the surgery. The combined operative fixation with traditional chinese medicine for treating calcaneal fractures is worthy for clinical application for its advantages of stable fixation, simple operation, easily accepted by the patients, no side effects and satisfactory clinical effect.
