[OBJECTIVE] Determining the incidence of tick-borne encephalitis in Yanbian area and analysis of its clinical manifestations.[METHODS] The authors report a study of32cases of TBE collected and processed at the Yanbian University Hospital for12months from1May2009to April30,2010. The diagnosis was based on data from clinical examination including examination revealed a concept of living in the forests during warm climate and a notion of tick bite. The fever and headache were the symptoms start. Disorders of consciousness, speech, gait and balance, focal neurological deficits and coma were the main reasons for consultation and hospitalization.[RESULTS]Paraclinical data including CSF analysis revealed a clear fluid inflammatory lymphocytes (300to500/ml), protein (0.6to2g/1) and glucose (normal). MRI images were normal in10cases, dilatation of the gyrus in6cases and hyper-intensity of a white substance in16cases. During treatment, three of our patients had seizures that prompted the request for GET data bioelectric brain. Laboratory tests exploring the field allowed us to exclude all other diseases.[CONCLUSION]This prospective study of32cases of tick-borne encephalitis manifested by classic and atypical clinical presentations, the concept of living in the forests during periods of warm climate, the notion of tick and tick head found on the skin some of our patients confirmed the presence of tick-borne encephalitis in this area of China. These clinical manifestations progressing to complications require setting up a program to prevent this diseas.
