Objective: By the combination of bibliographical studies and statistical analysis,thispaper has made a comprehensive study on the213herbal formulas of depression syndromein Fang Ji Da Ci Dian to understand the syndrome-treatment and formula regularity ofdepression syndrome.Contents and Methods: This paper is divided into3sections. The first section is thesummary of the general situation about the concept,categories,cause and pathogenesis，andcuring rule and method of depression syndrome. It is made by the method ofbibliographical studies. The second section is the statistical analysis. It classified andanalyzed the formulas of depression syndrome in Fang Ji Da Ci Dian to explore theregularity of syndrome-treatment and formula. The third section is the discourse where theconclusion on syndrome-treatment and formula regularity of depression syndrome is madein accordance with the bibliographical studies and statistical results.Results: Drugs in the herbal formulas of depression syndrome range a wide field,including drugs for regulating Qi, drugs strengthening the spleen and replenishing Qi,drugs eliminating dampness and relieving phlegm, drugs nourishing blood and Yin,heat-clearing drugs, drugs for invigorating blood circulation, drugs promoting digestion,drugs nourishing heart and calming mind, etc. all of these, the drugs which have thefunction of regulating Qi are used more often than others.Conclusion: The depression syndrome can be classified into11types to makediagnosis and treatment based on differentiation of symptom. To depression syndromes offive Zang-organs, once one organ has a problem, others will be involved. So in theirtreatment, the five-Zang organs must be cared at the same time, and the main attentionshould be paid to relieving liver-Qi stagnation. While in treating depression syndromes caused by six evil Qi, promoting Qi goes first. It is also necessary to give consideration toinvigorate blood, clean heat, eliminate dampness, relieve phlegm and promote digestion atthe same time.
