Background:Tuberculosis is a kind of old and widespread infectious disease which has been existed since there were human beings. Currently, more than2billion people have been infected by tuberculosis-causing microbial tuberculosis bacilli, accounting for one third of the world’s population. China is one of the22countries where the prevalence of tuberculosis is most serious and one of the27countries where the prevalence of multi-drug resistant tuberculosis is most serious. Recently, the incidence of TB in China is in the second place of the world.2010the fifth national tuberculosis epidemiology investigation in Shandong Provence indicates that the epidemic of TB is serious with the prevalence of active pulmonary tuberculosis accounts to270.9/100000, smear positive pulmonary tuberculosis17.5/100000, sputum positive pulmonary tuberculosis29.6/100000.Objective:The main purpose of this study is to analyzes tuberculosis patients’ response and feelings and related condition their family encounters through conducting questionnaire investigation of tuberculosis patients and to forward relevant countermeasures and suggestions to increase social understand and support for tuberculosis patients and provide reference for reducing social isolation.Material and methods:The materials of this study come from Institute of social medicine and health service management of school of public health of Shandong UniversityConclusion and suggestions:The results of the research show that the overall social support degree of tuberculosis is low while the cognition degree of the social support degree of the patients is high. TB patients are in the face of various problems but the approval they acquire is mainly from their family. But men, older patients with tuberculosis, have lower social support. This suggests that social support of TB patients and impacts on their physical health brought by social and mental factors should be considered on the base of regular chemotherapy and psychological intervention should be offered. At the same time, relative propaganda about tuberculosis should be enhanced to improve the cognitive ability of the society, eliminate misunderstanding caused by shortage of relevant knowledge and help patients get better social support and higher level of mental health so as to improve their compliance of treatment. Statistical results show that79.3%of families and92.8%village doctors show the same attitude towards TB patients as usual after they know their illness. More than90%of TB patients can understand the respond of people around. It is suggested that the level of social support should be improved through three aspects:enhancing social propaganda, eliminating family discrimination and strengthening humanistic care for tuberculosis patients through improving medical workers’ understanding. The cognitive education for patients, including the cognition of the diseases and social support, should also be enhanced.
