Objective: This study was designed under the guidance of traditional Chinese medicine syndrome differentiation theory, combined with laboratory parameters to explore the relationship between Yang-deficiency syndrome and thyroid hormone changes in chronic renal failure, to find an objective basis, to provide a reference for TCM; observed the dfficacy of Yang-deficiency syndrome of chronic renal failure after zhe treatment of warming Yang and discharging dampness. Methods:Forty patients with chronic renal insufficiency of Yang-deficiency syndrome in spleen and kidney are randomly divided into two groups, each grope hane twenty cases. Both of the two groups are observed for two therapeutic courses, which last for two months. Group A is treated with Bao Shen Pian, which produced by Jiangsu Province Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital. Group B is treated with the method of warming Yang and discharging dampness. Major observed indicators include the changes of clinical symptoms and signs, renal function, thyroid hormone; the minor indexes are uric acid and urine creatinine before and after treatment.Results:(1) The A and B groups have some effect, the total effective rate of group A is70.0%,the dramatic effective rate is10.0%,while the total effective rate of group B is90.0%,the dramatic effective rate is50.0%. The total effective rate of group B is higher zhan group A, and the difference has a statistical significance. Both group before and after treatment of zhe TCM symptoms also improved to some extent. Group A has dramatic effects on improving all the symptoms of Yang-deficiency,except the symptoms of loose stools and pale mouth thirst. Group B has dramatic effects on improving all the symptoms of Yang-deficiency. Comparing group A to group B, group B has better effects on weakness of intolerance of cold, pale mouth thirst, cold pain in the waist, copious clear night urine than group A,they have obvious difference;each symptom of rest also improved to some extent. But the difference between group A and group B doesn’t have a statistical significance.(2)Most patients of Yang-deficiency syndrome present low level of T3、T4, after zhe treatment of warming Yang, with zhe improvement of zhe symptoms of Yang-deficiency, thyroid hormone has been improved too, and the difference has a statistical significance.(3) Group B can effectively lower the density of blood urea nitrogen and serum creatinine, and has a dramatic therapeutic significance statistically. The blood urea nitrogen and serum creatinine of group A are reduced, and the difference has no statistical significance. Group B is better than A group in reducing zhe blood urea nitrogen and serum creatinine, and the difference has no statistical significance.(4) Uric acid is not influenced before and after the treatment and between the two groups. After treatment, Uric creatnine of group B is increased, and the difference has no statistical significance. Uric creatnine of group A have no significant change.(5) Side effects are detected neither in Group A nor in Group B during the consecutive two months of treatment.Conclusions:(1) Therapeutic effects of warming Yang and discharging dampness treating Yang-deficiency syndrome of Chronic Renal Failure are definite;(2)Patients of Yang-deficiency syndrome of Chronic Renal Failure have low level of T3、T4. After zhe treatment of warming Yang and discharging dampness, with zhe improvement of zhe symptoms of Yang-deficiency, thyroid hormone has been improved too,yet zhe mechanism is not clear.
