ObjectiveThis randomized controlled study observes the clinical curative effect of the therapy based on Jin’s Three-needle Therapy, compares the effect of cognitive training with needles acupunctured on heads with the effect of cognitive training after the acupuncture therapy in treating1.5-6years old children mental retardation (MR), and makes evaluation with the hope of further promoting curative effect and achieving better social benefit.MethodsFrom January2011to March2012,54qualified subjects of children mental retardation were selected in the Department of Rehabilitation of the Yuexiu Children’s Hospital and Acupuncture&Moxibustion Outpatient Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The qualified subjects were randomly classified into two groups:the Trial Group25children(cognitive training with needles acupunctured on heads) and the Controlled Group29children (cognitive training after the acupuncture therapy). Treat3times each week for12weeks in a treatment course with36times of needling in total. Observe1treatment course. Evaluate the MR children with the Neuropsychological Development Checklist of0-6Years Old Children (Appendix2). Evaluate Developmental Quotient (DQ), Mental Age, Adaptive Ability, Language Ability, Social Behavior.ResultsAfter1treatment course, the Developmental Quotient (DQ), Mental Age, Adaptive Ability, Social behavior scores of two groups rise obviously compared with those before treatment and the difference has statistical significance(P<0.01); in terms of Language Ability, the Trial Group rise with significantly statistical difference (P<0.01), while the Controlled Group has not(P<0,01),which indicate that the cognitive training with needles acupunctured on heads has better effect of language disorder.Between the two groups, Mental Age of the Trial Group rise averagely7.2840±6.19958, Social Behavior of the Trial Group rise averagely6.7600±8.60174; at the mean time, Mental Age of the Controlled Group rise averagely only3.3172±2.78055, Social Behavior of the Controlled Group rise averagely only0.7724±8.55649. Thus, in terms of Mental Age and Social Behavior, the difference has statistical signif icance(P<0.05), which means that cognitive training with needles acupunctured on heads can better improve MR children’s Mental Age and Social Behavior than cognitive training after the acupuncture therapy, which also indicates that cognitive training with needles acupunctured on heads (base on Jin’s Three-needle Therapy to MR children) has confirmed curative effect in treat children mental retardation.Cone l us ionBased on the clinical research results mentioned above, it can be proved preliminarily that cognitive training with needles acupunctured on heads(base on Jin’s Three-needle Therapy to1.5-6years old MR children) has better effect than cognitive training after the acupuncture therapy, especially in Mental Age and Social Behavior. And it deserves further promotion in clinical treatment.
