| Research background and objective:Recent year, the incidence of gastrointestinal cancer has increased worldwide. These disorders often need surgical intervention that often results some patients mental burden.The most common negative emotions is excessive anxiety and depression. The relevant researches has been carried out on the relationship between phycological status and gastrointestinal tract cancer, but the results were different. Epidemiology of anxiety and depression in patients with gastrointestinal cancer has still not clarified. The aim of this paper was to investigate anxiety and depression status in gastrointestinal cancer patients underwent surgical procedures and to discuss the related influencing factors.Methods The Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS) and Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) were used to study the psychological status in213gastrointestinal cancer patients preoperatively and to investigation the related factors of anxiety and depression.Results The average scores of SDS and SAS were51.46±5.62and53.33±5.03respectively. The scores of the national norm were41.88±10.57and37.23.±12.58.There were significant differences between the tow groups (P<0.01). Univariate analysis showed that the patients’ occupational status, the cost of hospitalization, marital status, family income, previous physical condition, awareness of the diseases and surgery, warring about increasing the burden to the family, complications of surgery, disease stage and gender were independent factors and significantly related with anxiety and depression (P<0.01, P<0.05). Multivariate linear regression analysis showed that family income complications of surgery, awareness of the disease and surgery, diseases stage, the cose hospitalization, gender and occupational status were independent influencing factors with anxiety, and then complications of surgery, awareness of the disease and surgery, diseases stage, the cose hospitalization, gender, occupational status, warring about increasing the burden to the family and previous physical condition were the independent influencing factors with depression.Conclusion The patients’ occupation,marriage unhappiness, low family income, poor physical condition, warring about the diseases and surgery, fear of increasing the burden to the family, serious complications, an advanced stage of disease were more likely to cause anxiety and depression. Female patients were more susceptible to depression than male ones. |
