Objective1. To investigate the detection methods and characteristics of cervicalvestibular evoked myogenic potential (cVEMP), ocular vestibular evokedmyogenic potential (oVEMP) and alternate bithermal caloric test (BT) inhealthy people, and the influences of gender, age and ear stratificationon the three clinical indexes.2. To study the characteristics of cVEMP, oVEMP and BT in vertigo patients, and evaluate the clinic significance of the three clinical indexes inpositioning diagnosis and prognosis by comparing them with healthypeople.MethodsTo investigate the characteristics of cVEMP, oVEMP and BT by testing64healthy people based on gender, age and ear stratification. To assess thedifferences by comparing the data of affected ears and unaffected earsof33BPPV patients with those obtained from healthy people.Results1. There was no significant difference in cVEMP, oVEMP and BT on healthypeople from different ages and ears.(P>0.05). There was negativecorrelation between age and p13-n23amplitude of VEMP and oVEMP(γ=-0.651<0,-0.562<0,respectively).2. There was significant difference in cVEMP and oVEMP between affectedears of patient group and ears of healthy people(P <0.05). However,no significant difference was found in SPV between affected ears ofpatient group and ears of healthy people.(P>0.05). 3. There was significant difference in cVEMP and oVEMP between affectedears and unaffected ears of patient group(P <0.05). However, nosignificant difference was existed in SPV between affected ears andunaffected ears of patient group(P>0.05).4. The rate of abnormal cVEMP and oVEMP was33%and36%,respectively.The positive rate of CP was48%.Conclusions1.There was significant difference in the amplitude of cVEMP and oVEMPamong different ages. It may suggested a negative correlation between ageand the amplitude of the cVEMP and oVEMP.2.There was significant differences in cVEMP and oVEMP of the affectedears of patient group, compared with the unaffected ears of patient groupand right ear of healthy people. However, no significant difference wasfound in SPV between affected ears and unaffected ears of patient groupand right ear of healthy people. Therefore, cVEMP oVEMP and BT could beadopted as clinic indicator for BPPV vestibular function.
