Objective: To investigate the changes of plasma advanced oxidation protein products(AOPPs) and urine podocalyxin (PCX) in patients with resistance proteinuria and chronicrenal failure (CRF) after taking fucodian polysaccharide sulfate (FPS).Method:44patients with resistance proteinuria and chronic renal failure were divided intotwo groups according to the random number table. Patients in Group A took FPS for12weekson the basis of necessary treatment, then were followed for12weeeks after withdraw FPS.Patients in Group B were kept on the original treatment for12weeks, then took FPS for12weeks. FPS was given as HaiKunShenXi capsules. The clinical data and laboratory parameterswere obtained. Plasma advanced oxidation protein products (AOPPs) and urine podocalyxin(PCX) were measured by ELISA.Results: In patients of Group A, FPS treatment decreased proteinuria, cholesterol and LDL,as well as plasma AOPPs and urine PCX. After withdrow of FPS, the proteinuria, LDL andplasma AOPPs in these patiens kept a low level with increased BUN and creatinine level. Inpatients of Group B, their proteinuria and BUN, creatinine level as well as plasma AOPPs andurine PCX increased gradually, eGFR decreased during the period of observation. After FPSadministration for12weeks, this tendency did not change. For all the patients of both Group Aand Group B, FPS treatment did not change proteinuria, increased BUN and creatinine levelswith decreased eGFR. This effect was similar to observation itself. There was no difference oneGFR between FPS treatment period and observation period. Conclusion: FPS had not significant effect on excretion of urine protein in patients withresistant proteinuria and chronic renal failure. It could increase plasma BUN and creatininelevel stop the progression of eGFR in these patients.
