| The present research worked on the development of sweet corn in Zhejiang Province, basing on the research and development status of sweet corn at home and abroad, in recent years. The main problems of development of sweet corn were also analyzed, and development directions of sweet corn were discussed in Zhejiang Province. Moreover, the precedures of breeding, cultivation and processing on sweet corn were analyzedied in order to providing a theoretical basis for the development and food processing industrialization of sweet corn in the future. The main results were as follows:1. There were many fresh sweet corn varieties, which were selected and validated in Zhejiang. However, the percentage of fresh sweet corn for food processing was low. It indicated that selection and promotion of sweet corn varieties were relatively backward. Meanwhile, Processing of sweet corn needed to be deepened. Therefore, a certain degree of incentive policies was required to support the whole sweet corn industry.2. At present, breeding of sweet corn encounters bottlenecks. Sweet corn germplasm resources were scarce, and breeding technology needed to be improved. As a result, exchanges and cooperation with different provinces or foreign countries were required to collect good germplasm resources around the world. Secondly, advanced breeding technology of sweet corn should be learned from advanced research institutes from inside and outside province. or in China or foreign counties. The technology, including cell engineering.chromosome engineering. genetic engineering and molecular marker, should be applied to sweet corn breeding in order to promoting the process of sweet corn breeding.3. There were many difficulties on cultivation of sweet corn in Zhejiang Province. There were few cultivation area. And the promotion of cultivation techniques was slow. The cultivation of sweet corn should focus on the following aspects:(1) varieties selection and isolated cultivation:(2) fine planting and field management;(3) preventing pests and keeping fresh corn safety:(4) harvesting in suitable time and ensuring corn freshness and quality.4. In Zhejiang Province, the most backward step of sweet corn development was food processing, consisting of small scale processing, low technology and high production costs. Moreover, there was no professional processing enterprises in our province. Therefore, the development strategy of sweet corn processing in our province should be as follows:combining the sweet corn processing with production base; controlling processing technology strictly; developing new products; focusing on new products with fresh food, grain processing and corn ear processing; guiding a scientific concept of consumption; broadening the sales market. Eventually, leading to a scientific road, consisting of sweet corn breeding, cultivation and processing, as well as pollution-free cultivation and processing, was leaded to promote the developments of sweet corn industry. |
