Whipgrass (Hemarthria compressa) is one of the most popular warm-season species in the south of China because of its high yield and good taste. But, there are always few yields in cold winter and spring but a lot of overplus in warm summer in whipgrass land alone. To solve the problem, it always needs to overseed annual forage into whipgrass land in autumn or ensilage whipgrass in summer to increase yield and supply more forages in winter and spring. So in this research, on one way three different annual legumes (Vicia villosa L., Vicia sativa L., Pisum sativum L.) were overseeded into whipgrass land with different seed quantities in autumn, and on another way some whipgrass were ensilaged in summer with three different addictives (FAST-SILE Lactobacillus preparation, cellulose enzyme and sucrose) in different concentrations. The object of the former experiment was to evaluate the effects of different annual legumes with different seed quantities on the yield of whipgras land and expected to choose an appropriate annual legume with an appropriate seed quantity to overseed whipgrass land in autumn. Meanwhile, the object of the latter experiment was to evaluate the effects of different addictives in different concentrations on the fermentation quality of whigrass silage and expected to choose an appropriate addictives in an appropriate concentration to be helpful to increase the fermentation quality of whipgrass. The results showed that:(1) After overseeded annual legumes(Vicia villosa L., Vicia sativa L., Pisum sativum L.) into whipgrass land in autumn, the yields in spring and the whole year of all treatments were evidently higher than that of the control (P<0.05). And when the seed quantities of Vicia villosa L., Vicia sativa L. and Pisum sativum L. were50kg/hm2,50kg/hm2and90kg/hm2, the yields of them were25.65t,35.89t and35.64t, respectively. Whereas, compared with the control, when the seed quantities of Vicia sativa L. were50kg/hm2and 60kg/hm2and that of Pisum sativum L. was90kg/hm2, their yields in the whole year were35.89t,33.34t and35.64t, respectively, which were increased by113.50%,98.33%, and120.02%.(2) After overseeded annual legumes (Vicia villosa L., Vicia sativa L., Pisum sativum L.) into whipgrass land in autumn, the content of crude protein of forage increased evidently (P<0.05) and the contents of neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber of forage were both decreased evidently at first harvest in spring (P<0.05). But at second harvest in17th May, the content of crude protein of forage of all treatments was decreased. After that, the content of crude protein of treatments was decreased and the content of neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber was increased with the increasing of harvest time.(3) Whipgrass (Hemarthria compressa) was ensilaged with three addictives (FAST-SILE Lactobacillus preparation, cellulose enzyme and sucrose). The pH of treatment adding FAST-SILE Lactobacillus preparation with low, middle and high concentration was4.15,4.11and4.25, respectively, which were closed to the perfect pH (4.20). And FAST-SILE Lactobacillus preparation was able to evidently decrease the pH value, increase the content of lactic acid and the fermentation quality, especially with the concentration of1.5g/t and2.5g/t. The pH of treatment adding cellulose enzyme with low, middle and high concentration were4.35,4.98and4.71, which were lower than that of the control. And when the concentration of cellulose enzyme was10g/t, the pH of treatment was lower than the control, the content of lactic acid and crude protein were higher than the control. But sucrose may result in the failure of whipgrass ensilage.(4) Annual legume. Vicia sativa L.(50kg/hm2and60kg/hm2) and Pisum sativum L.(90kg/hm2), could evidently increase the yield of whipgrass in the whole year (P<0.05). which was35.89t/hm2,33.34t/hm2and35.64t/hm2, respectively. But the administration cost of management of grassland of Vicia sativa L. with seed quantity of50kg/hm2and60kg/hm2was¥400and¥480. respectively. Meanwhile, in the three additives, treatment of FAST-SILE Lactobacillus preparation with low (1.5g/t) and middle (2.5g/t) concentration had lower administration cost, which were¥7.50and¥12.50, respectively. To sum up, it was feasible and substantial to increase the yield of whipgrass land in spring and whole year by overseeding annual legumes (Vicia villosa L., Vicia sativa L. Pisum sativum L.) with appropriate seed quantity into it in autumn, and especially with the seed quantity of Vicia villosa L. and Vicia sativa L was50kg/hm2and50kg/hm2, respectively. And it was good to increase the forage quality by ensilaging whipgrass with FAST-SILE Lactobacillus preparation and cellulose enzyme with appropriate concentration in summer. What’s more, when the concentration of AST-SILE Lactobacillus preparation was1.5g/t and2.5g/t, the pH of treatments was lower and the content of lactic acid and crude protein was higher than that of the control. In one word, it is a good idea to combine overseeding with ensilaging to make sure the supply of forage in the whole and not to affect the growth of whipgrass.
