As the development of cable-stayed structure, it had become the research focus of scientists that using finite element analysis to carry out health monitoring, damage assessment work on the cable-stayed bridge. The cable-stayed bridge finite element model updating technology is the basis of that work. It is particularly critical to find an efficient and accurate model updating method.Shandong Dongying Shengli Yellow River Bridge is15km away from Dongying, and about40km away from the Yellow River estuary. It was completed in September1987. The bridge is the first steel cable-stayed bridge constructed in China. This paper relied on the Shandong Dongying Shengli Yellow River Bridge, the main contents are as follows."(1) An overview of the cable-stayed bridge development status, the analysis of the basic structure and the arrangement of cable-stayed bridge’s each part. At the same time, this paper introduced the research status and development trend of the finite element model updating technology at domestic and abroad in detail.(2) A reduced scale model in the ratio of1:150was designed from its practical counterpart-Shengli cable-stayed bridge in Dongying. The static and dynamic response model test was carried out on the model. By the appropriate means of testing, It would be obtained that modal parameters and strain response in different conditions for the bridge.(3) A simplified three-main-beam finite element model was constructed based on the reduced scale model of the Shengli Bridge. It would research several key issues of finite element model updating:the selection of parameters to be corrected, the model updating method based on the static and dynamic response and the model updating method based on ANSYS finite element analysis software. And it was carried out that the finite element model updating of the Shengli cable-stayed bridge based on the modal response of the structure, by ANSYS software.(4) Based on the finite element model updating, a rapid damage detection method was put forward. In addition, regarding a finite element model of simple supported beam as an example, a numerical simulation of its damage detection was carried out.
