China has the highest share of wind resources in the world and it is also one of countries who firstly take use of wind energy. Although China is rich in wind resources and has great wind power development prospects, the cost of wind power is still high due to higher investment by wind electricity department than other regular energies. Therefore, the target of the design for wind farm is to try to reduce production cost and maximize the economic benefits under the premise of utilizing wind energy efficiently. From the aspects of technology and economy, the paper studies the optimal selection of wind turbine in specific wind resources situation. Firstly, it describes the basic theoretical knowledge of wind power. After that, it introduces the composition of the wind turbine structure, classification, future trends and the measurement and assessment for wind resources. In the end, it analyzes the third period wind resources of Zuoyun wind power farm and optimizes the selection of the wind turbine combining with Shanxi Datang International Zuoyun wind power program.
