The offset face gear transmission is a kind of gear drive of intersecting shaft, whichwould enable the application area of the face gear to expand, and provide the largerspace for the designers. The offset of the pinion shaft line is benefit to improve therigidity of the transmission system by the application of straddle mounting, which ispossessed with the higher contact ratio. Moreover, there is a good developing potentialthe offset face gear used in the area of machine and mechanical industry.The investigation of geometrical principle of the offset face gear transmission havebeen done, the tooth surface equations are determined by building the mathematicalmodel of the offset face gear generation based on the involutes gear shaping cutter.According to its generating principle, the extreme conditions were defined that theleast inner radius without the undercut and the max external radius without the centre.At the same time, the relation of the face gear effective tooth width to the offset isanalyzed and the relation of the tooth width of the modification offset face gear to themodification coefficient is researched.The cylindrical gear is modeled with parameterization by calling the gear libraryfrom Pro/E. Then, the net points on the surface of the offset face gear are derived andthese points’ coordinate values were extracted by surface equations. So its modelswere finished by importing these points’ coordinate values into Pro/E.Based on AutCAD2006and Visual Basic, the part drawings of the face gear aredrew. And the data base on common tolerance is built by using ActiveX Automation.Then the auto-dimension common tolerance is realized based on Visual Basic.The static analysis of the bending stress were executed on the cylindrical gear andthe offset face gear by ANSYS software. The results showed that the max beadingstress of the cylindrical gear existed in the tooth root under the concentrated loads.When the concentrated loads moved to two sides, the beading stress is increasedgradually, while the bending stress of the offset face gear is also increased graduallybecause it existed in the middle of the surface. In the end, according to the meshing theory of the offset face gear, the present514isreformed to satisfy the generation of the offset face gear, then the shaping experimentson the face gear have been performed. And the tests of the roll inspecting and meshingnoise reach the expected goal, which verified the research of this dissertation.
